How To Plan A Pedal Board

[This repost is an excerpt from an ebook that I released a few months ago. You can download it here!]

I have been looking forward to writing this post for awhile. There are so many things that a guitarist needs to know about pedal boards. I am still learning a lot. Throughout researching and learning from more experienced guitarists, I have learned many tips and tricks about pedal boards. Before we get into the small details of pedal boards, we must understand the basics.

What Do I Actually Need?

This was a question I had flowing through my brain when I first started getting series about my guitar gear. I did some research, but I really didn’t find anything on how to build a basic pedal board set-up.

The first thing that you need to have on a pedal board is a tuner! This is one of the most important pedals you could ever invest in! It doe not matter which tuner; it just needs to work well.

Beatitudes

This passage comes from Matthew 5:3-12. It is a famous lesson from Jesus known as the “Beatitudes”. The passage is below, and I have some other links to some previous posts that I have outlined the different verses.

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn,For they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.

Beatitude Outlines:

Poor in Spirit (verse 3)

Meekness (verse 5)

Seeking God With a Pure Heart (verse 6 and 8)
Persecution (verse 10 and 11)

The Blog Celebrates #300!

I just wanted to announce that this post today marks the 300th post on the blog. God has really blessed this site, and it has come a long way since it’s beginning stages last year. It has been cool to go through a few of the post from the first few months on the site and personally see how far things have come. Since last year, my life has changed dramatically! Even in the last month, I have come to new realizations such as preparing to leave home, going on the journey to become a surgeon, and more! The past few months have really been crazy in my life!

Aside from just the physical experiences gained, I have really grown spiritually in the past year. It is awesome to be able to come here and share some thoughts that God puts on my heart. It is also amazing that I can follow other sites that do the same. I have learned so many things through posting 300 posts! The community that has been built and that is still continuing to grow over here has just been a blessing. In the beginning, I was not sure if I would even be able to have two people read my blog. Instead, God has blessed this site with many more!

How To Decide On A Great Sounding Amp

[This repost is an excerpt from an ebook that I released a few months ago. You can download it here!]

When I was starting to get serious about my guitar tone, I really wished that someone would have written this kind  of post. I was clueless about guitar tone. In the previous posts, we discussed how your guitar choice greatly determines your tone. We also listed a guide on how to buy pedals. Although we will talk talk about the details and awesomeness of pedals in the next post, I believe that your amp is extremely important. The guitar is the most important because it is the instrument, but the choice of your guitar amp will basically determine your guitar tone- either good or bad!

Some Differences Between Solid State and Tube Amps

Without writing a huge research paper about the differences, I’m going to briefly explain the major tone differences between the two.

This Love Will Last Forever

One song that I have been listening to a lot lately is called “This Love Will Last Forever” by Phil Wickham. I bought his new CD when it came out a few months ago, and I loved every song on it- especially this one! The words in it have such a great message to us. Being able to sing that our love for God will last forever is just amazing. It is a declaration, but it is also a promise to God. We are going to be leading this song through worship next week, and I am really excited about it! If you have not heard the song before, there is a video below with the song and the lyrics.

Refining Worship

[This is a guest post from my friend Brandon Kittridge. He is an awesome guy, and he plays bass guitar in our worship band. You can check out his blog here!]

Lately God has taught me much about what worship really is.

Many people look at worship as something so much less than it really is. I don’t want to preach about worship through this post. Instead, I want to show you something that could change how you worship.

So having said that I want to share what I personally have gone through in this lately. (I know I know, it’s really boring when the writer talks about themselves, but bear with me it won’t kill you…)

Recently, I have been really praying and thinking about my worship life:

  • Am I really worshiping or just singing songs?
  • Do I really mean the words I sing? With my heart?
  • Am I worshiping with my life too?
  • Am I really singing to God?
  • Is he my main focus in life?
